- Rear naked choke – when it comes to Jiu Jitsu 3 year olds, they can try to choke their opponents, but they have very small chances of good coordination between both hands;
- Guillotine – jiu jitsu 4 year olds will know how to grab the elbow and increase the choke strength, while younger kids will put one arm around opponents neck but locking the choke down will be mission impossible;
- Hip thrust – in many submissions, your hips need to go up (triangle choke, for example), and it requires good coordination between arms and legs;
- Ankle lock – even if a 3-year-old child grabs the leg, chances of putting it under the armpit and crossing legs on the top of the opponent’s thigh aren’t huge;
- Armbar – mounting and wrestling are ok but younger children, and especially toddlers, will put the elbow on the quads or adductors, not between the legs… and you can forget about lifting the hips up.
As the a toddlers brain and fine movements develop, a child may easily learn to isolate an arm, biceps, or even the hand. When the child reaches the age of six, it can perform all the movements of a grown-up man, when it comes to technique. Power and execution will come with time. But if someone says jiu jitsu 4 year olds are unable to perform a successful submission attempt, he simply is not telling the truth. All you need is patience and a good way to communicate with children.
Children’s Jiu Jitsu Classes | What Might Come in Handy to Jiu Jitsu 3 Year Olds And Other Groups?
Sometimes training two groups might turn into a real nightmare. You have to make training sessions interesting. It means you will have to add some creativity. Your children shouldn’t get bored. Here is the list of possibilities for jiu jitsu 3 year olds:
- Mount and back mount – the kid only needs to learn to climb up, and they are curious by nature;
- Side control;
- Back defense – laying on the back and moving legs sounds like an interesting activity;
